Being a Helper of the OWLS is easy. You have have your own chapter with as few as two members. Ask friends, relatives, classmates, neighbors, service groups, etc.
Every chapter has two goals. Raise awareness about the OWLS and have one project each year to help homeless orphans or teens aging out of foster care.
One way to help is have a fundraiser. Almost any kind of fundraiser is acceptable. They can small or large and be almost anything: babysitting, water balloon toss, car wash, nickel collections, dance, cookie sale, yellow plastic duck race, bowling, golf tournament, auction, raffle, etc. The more creative, the more the fun! Have as many FUNdraisers as you would like.Chapters can help the OWLS in other ways besides fundraisers. They can collect and send clothing and supplies to street orphans. If a group wants to have a Backpack Carepak drive, please let us know first. We have a list of specific items needed. We can also help arrange transportation of the supplies.
Another choice is to ask celebrities, employers, friends or business owners to donate auction items. Anything from Starbucks gift certificates to movie passes can be donated. These items will be auctioned on a charity auction site and funds will help with transportation costs to send supplies.
Chapters can also help EACH OTHER. One group may collect shirts, socks, etc for a Backpack Carepak drive. Another group may have a car wash to help raise money for transportation to send the supplies to needy kids.
EVERY amount raised will help, no matter how small or large. The main goal is to raise awareness that over 100 MILLION children under 18 live on dangerous streets. (UNICEF) Few people know that every 30 seconds, two children become orphans. (World Vision). Most orphans aren't adopted. That's why millions live on the streets today.
Every person who speaks up for them can make a difference. They are the largest minority on Earth without a voice.
You can BE their voice. Speak up. Call, email, and text message everyone you know. With many voices, homelessness for children under 18, can end.
