THE PUPPY DEFENDERS
Miguel de Luis, PROCHILD
Bucharest, ROMANIA --
Dear brothers and sisters, Street children have a bad name. Here in Romania is Aurolaci for the silver paint they sniff (though the active elment might be a thinner, I have only seen them consuming this in paint form) very often. In fact with so many poor children in the streets, the tiny spots of silver paint around their mouths is the best tell tale sign of the true street kid. Yet there are others signs. Do you want to be in trouble? Try kicking a puppy in the presence of street kids. You are kindly advised to wear a helmet. Stones are going to rain. 'Mila', compassion, is other of those signs. Affection is yet another. Between petty theft, foul language, drug use and fights, compassion and forgiveness is there. And caring for puppies...if you are a stray dog, you know the only hug you will get is from a street kid. For you the deep scent of Aurolac means friend. I can tell you something. One day as we were finishing our meal together a little stray dog came to us and I was expecting them to ask me to buy some more food for the dog, but, this little street kid literally took food out of his mouth to feed the puppy... and it was chocolate icecream. So if we are to lie by reducing their lives to one aspect, why should we use the word Aurolac, why not puppy defenders? There are some people who grumble because roses have thorns, I am thankful that thorns have roses...
